Holidays in Kalkan

Kalkan Introduction

Kalkan’s setting is fabulous. A maze of narrow, winding streets – lined with old Turkish houses, craft shops, pretty boutiques, tavernas and the odd night spot - rise from the harbour and climb to the top of the village from where there are stunning views of the bay and the surrounding mountains. The village beach is close to the harbour and the 12 mile long, sandy Patara beach is 20 minutes away by dolmus. It’s a picture postcard setting with a choice of beaches and authentic Turkish atmosphere.

Why Choose Kalkan?

If your idea of the perfect holiday is a beautiful bay, crystal clear seas, an attractive Turkish village and a laid-back, easy-going way of life, then Kalkan is definitely for you. Apart from August it rarely gets very crowded and is one of Turkey’s best kept secrets.

Best Time to Travel

Any time is a good time to be in Kalkan although the days are longer in May and June and the sea is at its warmest in September and October. In July and August there’s quite a lot of local tourism whilst throughout the rest of the summer Kalkan’s visitors are more international.

The Resort

Kalkan’s location is superb. It enjoys spectacular views across the bay and, with imposing mountains around the resort, it has the setting and feel of a huge amphitheatre. Fabulous Patara beach is 20 minutes away by dolmus whilst the resort’s shingle beach is right next to the harbour. The village itself is very laid-back and relatively uncommercial but, at the same time, there’s some low-key night-life and a very good selection of shops and restaurants.

Eating & Drinking

There’s a wide selection cafes, restaurants and bars in Kalkan which cater for just about every taste and, close to the harbour, there are several excellent seafood restaurants. Everything is within easy walking distance and is concentrated around the centre of the village and along the harbour-front.

Excursions

Apart from the many boat trips available, you can also visit and / or try your hand at white sea kayaking, Jeep Safari, Patara & the Lycean ruins, the famous sunken city of Kekova, Kastellorizo (Greek island) and the Saklikent Gorge & Tlos.

Night Life & Shopping

Kalkan’s nightlife is fairly low-key with a selection of night spots to choose from. Most visitors enjoy the peace and relaxed atmosphere of the resort in the evening but there’s always something to do and somewhere to go. Shopping is fun with a good choice of shops and some lovely arts & crafts boutiques.
